We are calling on members of the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights  to reject Bill C-9 (the Combatting Hate Act) because it fails to meaningfully protect worshippers while threatening our rights to free expression and protest.

The Muslim community views this bill as a political gesture by the Liberal government, not a genuine effort to ensure safety. Tell the Justice Committee to reject this bill.

Hello, my name is [Your Name], and I am a member of the Muslim community.

I’m calling to urge you and the Justice Committee to reject Bill C-9 and pause its progress until there has been meaningful consultation with Muslim communities across Canada.

This bill does not make our places of worship safer. Existing laws already protect worshippers, but Bill C-9 adds vague new offences and expanded police powers that could easily be used to criminalize peaceful, pro-Palestinian advocacy and other social justice movements.

Instead of symbolic legislation, our community is asking for real action to combat Islamophobia and anti-Palestinian racism, and for policies that build safety through dialogue, accountability, and prevention; not more policing.

Please ensure that Muslim leaders, scholars, and organizations are properly consulted before moving forward with any legislation like this.

Thank you for your time. I hope you’ll take these concerns seriously and work to protect both safety and civil liberties for all communities in Canada.
